sea and sun

Entrance composition to the Alabriga Hotel (Spain).

“A mirror splash against the background of the incandescent haze of the sun. The idea is simple and easy, but it took a lot of work to execute it. The background alone is about 200 kg of thin bronze wire wound in tight circles.

But the work was conceived for the sake of the wave itself. I have long wanted to make this element, this amorphous substance. The task seemed a little real, because the shape of water is so dynamic, changeable and elusive. And indeed, all my efforts to give it the right, thoughtful shape, under the mirror, were almost invisible, but the surface itself, due to constantly changing glare and reflections, came to life and found the very essence of the water element.”
